Article #1: “CNN’s Unbalanced Fact-Checking: A Biased Agenda Revealed”
In the two-and-a-half years of the Biden administration, it has become painfully clear that CNN’s fact-checking is anything but fair and balanced. The network’s chief fact-checker, Daniel Dale, seems to have developed a peculiar obsession with fact-checking Republicans, while giving President Biden a free pass.
A quick look at Dale’s online database shows that he hasn’t published a fact-check of President Biden since March 30. However, during the same period, he has managed to fact-check claims made by Republicans a staggering 21 times. It’s as if CNN’s fact-checkers believe that only Republicans are capable of falsehoods, while President Biden is infallible.
Even a cursory glance at the “Biden White House” section of the CNN fact-check site reveals a startling bias. It is filled to the brim with fact-checks of the former president, Donald Trump, rather than the current occupant of the White House. One must wonder if CNN is more interested in pursuing a partisan agenda than in holding those in power accountable.
Dale, who proudly claims to be the first media member to fact-check every false claim by Trump, seems to have conveniently forgotten his duty to fact-check President Biden. Instead, he has been making frequent on-air appearances to fact-check statements made by Trump related to his federal indictment. It’s almost as if Dale is more interested in targeting Republicans than in providing unbiased and comprehensive fact-checking.
The fact-checks listed under “Congress” are overwhelmingly focused on claims made by Republicans or even public figures like Elon Musk. Democrats are conspicuously absent from the list, while Republicans like Trump, Senator Tim Scott, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Representative George Santos dominate the entries.
It is worth noting that recent claims made by President Biden, such as his misleading statements about his family, have been conveniently left unchecked by CNN. Claims like Biden having only four granddaughters or his son Beau’s death in Iraq have not received the same scrutiny as claims made by Republicans. One must wonder why CNN is so selective in its fact-checking.
Tim Graham from the Media Research Center rightly points out that the phrase “independent fact-checkers” loses its credibility when it becomes apparent that their targeting is heavily tilted.
While these fact-checkers may not be directly paid by the Democrats, their focus on Republicans gives the impression that they might as well be. CNN’s obsession with Trump continues to overshadow the current president, Joe Biden, suggesting that Biden is not seen as powerful enough to be subjected to rigorous fact-checking.
It is clear that CNN’s fact-checking department needs a serious reevaluation. The overwhelming bias against Republicans, especially Trump, is impossible to ignore. In the interest of fairness and transparency, CNN should either address this bias head-on or bring in fact-checkers who can provide balanced scrutiny across the political spectrum.
