In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer expressed his strong opposition to the appointment of a special counsel in the federal probe into Hunter Biden. Chairman Comer emphasized that Americans should not trust Attorney General Merrick Garland and asserted that his committee is fully equipped to uncover the truth behind the Biden family’s alleged business schemes.
This statement comes after the House Ways and Means Committee released testimony from two IRS whistleblowers who revealed interference from officials at the Justice Department, FBI, and IRS in the investigation into Hunter Biden.
These whistleblowers alleged that decisions were influenced by politics, with prosecutors directing investigators to avoid asking questions about President Biden, choosing not to collect search warrants related to his son, and more.
The revelations surfaced shortly after the announcement that Hunter Biden would plead guilty to two misdemeanor counts of willful failure to pay federal income tax, as part of a deal expected to spare him from prison time. He has also agreed to a pretrial diversion agreement concerning a separate charge of possession of a firearm.
Despite these developments, Chairman Comer firmly believes that the investigation should remain within the purview of his committee, rather than being handed over to a special counsel appointed by the Biden administration.
He explained that supporting a special counsel would mean placing complete trust in Attorney General Merrick Garland to select an investigator who may operate without transparency for an indefinite period of time.
“I trust the House Oversight Committee to be the one and only entity leading this investigation,” Chairman Comer affirmed. “And we’ve already proven we can find all of this stuff in five months that took the government five years to find.”
Regarding Attorney General Garland, Chairman Comer did not mince words, describing him as “corrupt” and accusing him of lying to the American people. He pointed to Garland’s denial of any improper interference in the Hunter Biden investigation following the release of the IRS whistleblower testimony.
Garland claimed that U.S. Attorney David Weiss had complete authority to make all decisions independently, but the IRS whistleblowers testified that Weiss faced constant limitations and marginalization.
Chairman Comer further asserted that the federal government, under Garland’s leadership, is actively engaged in a cover-up. He argued that the DOJ deliberately delayed the Hunter Biden probe to allow the statute of limitations to expire on some of his tax problems.
However, Chairman Comer reassured the public that his committee is diligently pursuing the truth and utilizing the contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop hard drive as a valuable resource.
As the investigation continues, Chairman Comer stated that his committee plans to call additional witnesses, including Hunter Biden’s business associate Devon Archer. They are also looking into potential violations of the Foreign Agents Registration Act by Hunter Biden.
Furthermore, the committee is focusing on an FBI-generated FD-1023 form, which alleges President Biden’s involvement in a criminal bribery scheme with a foreign national, influencing U.S. policy decisions.
Chairman Comer concluded by vowing to bring in more individuals and obtain additional bank records to shed light on Joe Biden’s alleged involvement in questionable family business schemes.
Despite the White House’s repeated denial of President Biden’s participation in his son’s business dealings, the House Oversight Committee remains dedicated to uncovering the truth and ensuring transparency in this important investigation.
