Can You Believe who is leading the opposition to climate initiatives in Biden’s budget?

In a groundbreaking move, Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, alongside his fellow Republican members of the Senate Commerce Committee, has revealed the left-wing climate initiatives embedded within President Biden’s 2024 budget request. The memo, which has been circulated among GOP members of the Senate Appropriations Commerce, Justice, Science Subcommittee, serves as a wake-up call to reject these provisions that threaten to derail our nation’s progress.

The memo delves into the budget requests of several key agencies, including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and the National Science Foundation (NSF). It exposes the misguided priorities that prioritize political agendas over the core missions of these agencies.

Let’s start with NOAA, an agency tasked with providing essential weather forecasts, storm warnings, and coastal restoration support. The memo urges the committee to oppose any funding that goes beyond NOAA’s core mission to advance equity or address climate change and environmental justice. It highlights the worrisome inclusion of equity-focused projects within NOAA’s Coastal Management Fellowship, which diverts resources from its primary responsibilities.

NASA, too, has fallen prey to the left’s agenda. The memo questions the Office of Diversity & Equal Opportunity’s $22 million request, emphasizing the need to allocate funding to worthy scientific pursuits rather than DEI programs. Furthermore, the memo expresses skepticism about NASA’s Earth Science program’s increased budget request, which primarily focuses on climate change. It rightly points out that NASA should not become a tool for anti-fossil fuel environmentalists.

The NIST, an agency crucial to our country’s industrial competitiveness, has made questionable requests as well. The memo opposes the agency’s plea for $5.5 million to boost the Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability program and $2.2 million to support DEI programs. It rightly argues that NIST’s primary purpose should be promoting innovation, not entrenching DEI across departments and agencies.

Lastly, the NSF’s budget request raises serious concerns. With a 65% year-over-year increase, it overemphasizes climate change, clean energy-related activities, and DEI-related initiatives. The memo highlights the disconnection between these requests and NSF’s statutory responsibilities. Clean energy technology and climate equity fellowships have no place within an agency meant to support scientific research and discovery.

Senator Ted Cruz and his Republican colleagues have sounded the alarm on the left’s infiltration of our government agencies. They courageously stand up against the wasteful expenditure of taxpayer dollars on political agendas that do little to advance the core missions of these vital organizations.

It is now up to passionate Republican voters to rally behind Senator Cruz and ensure that these left-wing climate initiatives are exposed and defeated. We must demand accountability and transparency from our elected officials to protect our nation’s future from the grip of misguided policies. Together, we can uphold the principles that make America great and preserve our values for generations to come.
