A Republican lawmaker, Senator Ted Cruz, criticized the proposed $6.8 trillion budget for the 2024 fiscal year put forward by the Biden administration, claiming that the socialists are in charge of the White House.
Cruz stated that President Biden, who ran on a campaign of unity and bipartisanship, is not in charge and that the budget highlights the extreme economic, education, climate, and healthcare agenda of the socialist left. He also argued that the budget would increase taxes and spending to record levels, leading to a $50 trillion national debt.
During an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Cruz stated that the Biden administration wants to spend money they do not have and raise taxes on the American people.
He also highlighted that the budget prioritizes funding for the IRS but does not provide appropriations to secure the U.S.-Mexico border wall.
Cruz argued that the budget proposal is a “political document” and that there is no chance it would clear Congress, where Republicans hold a majority in the House of Representatives.
The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, an economic watchdog, also criticized the budget proposal as it would allow the deficit to grow $17 trillion over the next decade.
The CRFB stated that the budget “does not go far enough” to eliminate record levels of spending and would result in a new record-high debt. The CRFB President, Maya MacGuineas, called for more deficit reduction to put the nation’s fiscal house in order.
