After Senator Elizabeth Warren’s comment about Vice President Kamala Harris caused controversy, their relationship remains strained. Although Warren called to apologize six weeks ago, Harris has yet to call back.
Many close to Warren have said that she was simply explaining her statement as an unintentional attempt to avoid interfering with a campaign announcement from the president.
However, Harris’ circle believes that Warren’s comments sting even more because she was a former rival who hoped to be picked as Biden’s running mate in 2020 instead of Harris.
Warren did not commit to supporting Harris as vice president on the ticket, and although she quickly issued a statement saying that she fully supported the president and vice president’s re-election together and never intended to imply otherwise, Democrats are worried that these concerns could hurt Harris’ chances in the 2024 election campaign.
Jacquelyn Bettadapur, the leader of the Cobb County Democrats in Georgia, said that Harris is not getting the benefit of the doubt, and people “don’t know enough about what she’s doing.”
While some Democrats have questioned Harris’ abilities, supporters of the vice president believe that she has what it takes to lead the country, and they will continue to fight for her.
