North Carolina Deserves Better: Republican Party Calls for Resignation of State Auditor

It’s a sad day for North Carolina when a long-time Democrat elected official refuses to take responsibility for her actions. State Auditor Beth Wood, who has been in office since 2009, has been charged in a hit-and-run incident where she drove her state-issued vehicle into a parked car and then walked away from the scene.

Despite the evidence against her, Wood has shown no remorse for her actions, claiming that the accident was an “inadvertent” mistake. But let’s be real, her decision to sneak away from the scene was intentional and a clear indication of her lack of responsibility and accountability.

The North Carolina Republican Party is now calling on Wood to resign, stating that the state “deserves better.” And they are right, the citizens of North Carolina deserve better than a public servant who would act in such a reckless and irresponsible manner.

It’s also worth noting that Wood is one of 10 members of the North Carolina Council of State, responsible for financial reviews of state agencies, as well as performance audits and other studies sought by the General Assembly. How can we trust her to perform these duties when she can’t even take responsibility for her own actions?

The North Carolina Democratic Party has been silent on the issue, refusing to comment on the matter. This is not surprising, as the Democrats have a long history of protecting their own, even when they are in the wrong. But the citizens of North Carolina deserve better.

It’s time for Wood to step down and for the Democrats to take a stand against this kind of behavior. The owner of the parked car, Chris Valverde, said it best, “I just hope that the justice system is fair and impartial when handling this case and not use her position as a privilege to skate out of it unscathed.” It’s time for accountability and justice to be served.
