Vice President Kamala Harris’s recent visit to Martha’s Vineyard has raised eyebrows across the nation. While she was attending a so-called “”grassroots fundraiser”” where access to her cost as much as $10,000, the island’s working class and its Native Wampanoag population are grappling with skyrocketing living costs. The stark contrast between the elite’s lavish gatherings and the struggles of everyday Americans is becoming increasingly evident.
Long-time Martha’s Vineyard homeowner and high-profile attorney, Alan Dershowitz, pointed out the glaring disparity, stating, “”I guarantee you not one working-class Democrat (was) invited to the Kamala event.”” This event underscores the growing divide between the powerful leftist elites and the working-class residents of the island.
The island, once known for its tranquility, has seen a surge in real estate prices, making it nearly impossible for average individuals to afford a home. The average home sale price on the island was a staggering $2.1 million in the first half of 2023. Such exorbitant prices have forced many, including the island’s original Wampanoag Natives, to leave their ancestral lands.
While the elites enjoy their high-priced fundraisers, the real story is the silent exodus of the island’s original inhabitants and workers. It’s a tale of two worlds, and the divide is growing wider.
