Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently attempted to dispel concerns about President Joe Biden’s age during an interview with Evan Smith from the Atlantic. She referred to Biden as an “excellent leader” and downplayed any worries about his age by stating that he is younger than her. However, Pelosi’s remarks were met with skepticism and criticism from social media users.
The small age gap between Pelosi (82) and Biden (80) does little to address the actual concerns of Biden’s critics. These critics argue that it’s not his age, but his perceived cognitive decline that is worrisome.
Users on social media were quick to point out that Pelosi’s own signs of aging make her comparison to Biden unconvincing. One user commented, “Someone needs to tell @SpeakerPelosi that this is NOT the winning point she thinks it is. She also seems somewhat impaired in looks, voice & mannerisms.”
Another user added, “Watch this without sound and tell me she doesn’t look absolutely Insane.”
Biden’s cognitive abilities have been a subject of debate since before he entered office. Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Texas), a former White House physician, has been one of the most vocal critics. Jackson recently appeared on Fox News to discuss Biden’s cancerous lesion removal, suggesting that Biden himself should be removed from office.
Despite Biden’s doctor declaring him “healthy, vigorous,” and “fit” to perform his presidential duties, questions surrounding his cognitive abilities continue to be a contentious issue. Pelosi’s defense of Biden’s age only seems to have fueled this ongoing debate.
