Former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson has thrown his hat in the ring for the 2024 GOP Presidential nomination. During his announcement, Hutchinson emphasized his record of cutting taxes, creating surpluses, and increasing teacher pay. He also highlighted his experience serving in Congress, as the head of the DEA, and as the Secretary of Homeland Security.
Hutchinson is a vocal critic of former President Trump, calling for him to drop out of the 2024 race following his indictment. Hutchinson believes that the presidency is more important than any individual person and that Trump’s candidacy would be a distraction from the office of the presidency.
While Trump has not announced his running mate, insiders say he is looking for someone who is loyal, charismatic, and ideologically aligned with him. He may choose a running mate from three general lanes of candidates: women, conservatives of color, or a trusted adviser.
Hutchinson’s announcement adds to the growing number of candidates seeking the GOP nomination, including former Vice President Mike Pence and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
